Licensing FAQs and Enquiries
We train Licensed Tutors and Licensed Mentors who are keen to be part of a UK-wide network supported by I CAN to disseminate evidenced-based training and intervention programmes to practitioners in early years settings, primary and secondary schools. You can find information about our Licensee network on the I CAN website here. If you would like information about becoming a Licensee for a specific programme, please click here and select the programme you are interested in.
To become a Licensee you must be a Speech and Language Therapist (SLT), a qualified Teacher or an Educational Psychologist. If you meet this criteria and would like to submit an application to become an I CAN Licensee please follow the steps below.

- How much does it cost to become a Licensee?
As a Licensee, you will be required to pay an annual Licence Fee of £60 (incl VAT) for each year that your Licensing Agreement is valid. Licensing Agreements last for 3 years, however you can continue to be a Licensee after this point if you wish, and can also cancel/lapse your licence at any point. - I want to become a Licensee but I’m not based in the UK.
I CAN’s programmes and interventions are piloted in England and sometimes refer to the English curriculum and so the outcomes outlined in our evaluation reports may differ when delivered in other countries. - I am interested in becoming a Secondary Talk Licensee.
Unfortunately we do not currently run Secondary Talk Licensee training courses at I CAN Central Office. However, with your permission, we will keep your name on file and send you updates on our secondary programmes when they are available.
- I am interested in receiving Nuffield Licensed Tutor training.
The developers of the Nuffield Early Language Intervention are reviewing and updating the materials, therefore we are unable to offer it. As soon as we have further details regarding its availability, we will inform you.”
- I am interested in receiving workplace training to become a Licensee/I have a group of staff who I would like to train in Talk Boost KS1, Early Talk etc.
If there is a group of you who are interested in being trained in one of our programmes and would rather not travel together to London for training, or cannot make one of our Central Office training dates, we are happy for one of our professional advisors to run training in your workplace for the group of you. Workplace training quotes are tailored depending on the group. Workplace training requests are assessed on a case by case basis, and while there is no official minimum number of delegates necessary to run workplace training, smaller groups a long way from our professional advisors may not be feasible. - I’ve forgotten my password/username.

- I am having difficulty booking onto a course.
In order to book a space on a course online, you must have been vetted and approved to attend that course. Check your account once you have finished your application, paid your licence fee and been vetted to see what courses you have been approved for and whether you are eligible to attend this training. In the unlikely event you have not been approved to attend the course you are interested in training in, please contact us and a member of our vetting team will be happy to have a chat and explain their reasoning.
- How do I find setting/schools who want to be trained once I am a Licensee?
You will find this much easier if you have already started developing a network of contacts before you become a Licensee. However if you are starting afresh we would recommend that you first add your contact details and what you are licensed in to our Licensee map, local practitioners requiring training will then be able to see that you are near to them and contact you directly.
I CAN will offer you additional support to help you contact seting/schools through the Licensing Support website insert link. This include logos you can use on your emails and marketing material, flyers and impacts statements about our programmes and inerventions.
There is also a PR Guidance kit to help you to promote what you offer locally.
Also, from time to time I CAN may pass you training requests they have received from practitioners in your area.
- How do I stay in touch with I CAN’s Licensing team once I’m trained?
Here are some of the main ways you can stay in touch with what’s going on:
E-mail – make sure I CAN has an e-mail address you check regularly. Of course you can e-mail us any time at email@example.com, but we will also sent you a monthly e-newsletter about what’s new, such as training downloads, offers and evaluation reports
Licensee Facebook Group – This is a great way to find out the latest news as it becomes available. Inset link This is an exclusive group and only I CAN Licensees can are approved as members by the I CAN Licensing admin team. It’s also a great way to nework with other Licensees around the country and share top tips to help your training run smoothly.
Licensee Support Website – This website is exclusively for Licensees and has a wealth of information to help you to get the most from your time as a Licensee. As well as downloads and news you can also find some webcast videos to keep you informed. We recommend you check by to this site every few weeks as new things are added all the time.
Your I CAN Support Contact – Each Licensee is allocated their own Licensing Support contact who will contact you every few months to see if you require further support or have any questions. - I’m struggling to access/put my details on the Licensee Map.
Settings and schools requiring a Licensed Tutor or Mentor are signposted to our Licensee map. If you are not on the map it may mean missed trading opportunities for you. We will endeavour to get your details added to the map as soon as we can. Please get in touch at email@example.com or tel: 0207 843 2515 if you would like to be added.
- I can’t access my certificate.
If you are having trouble accessing your certificate this may be because you are yet to complete your evaluation.
