Help Give Every Child A Voice
Today, nearly 1.4 million children live with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). That’s 10% of all children in the UK, or three in every classroom experiencing long-term, persistent SLCN. Poverty exacerbates the problem. In areas of deprivation, up to 50% of children start school with delayed language.
The impact of language difficulties on children’s lives can be devastating. Children battle to express themselves. They fight to understand what people are saying. All of which can make children feel terribly lonely. What’s more, young people with a language difficulty are four times less likely to get good GCSEs, and three times more likely to have mental health issues.
I CAN is at the forefront of support for children with both long-term, persistent SLCN and those with delayed language development. Every Child A Voice is our latest and most significant appeal. Designed to raise £5 million in three years, Every Child A Voice will support children and their families from age two to adulthood through four major projects.
