Progression Tools from The Communication Trust (Aged 3)
This Speech, Language and Communication Progression Tool support early years staff to identify children aged 3 who may be struggling to develop their speech, language and communication skills. It aims to provide a relatively quick way of determining where children are against where they should be for their age and provide more information about how these vital skills are progressing.
Here you can order the Tool for those who work with children aged 3. There are also Tools for those who work with children aged 4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-10.
The Tool contains a colour reference booklet with instructions on how to use it, questions to ask the children, guidance on how to observe their behaviour, and methods to track their results. You’ll also be provided with a black and white version of the question and observation sections for you to write on. You can photocopy these additional sheets as many times as you wish for the number of children you use the Tool with.
The Tools are for non-speech and language specialists who regularly work with children in a early years setting.
Please click here for frequently asked questions about the Tools, including how they link to the curriculum and how the Age 3 Tool links to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
