Today, over one million children live with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN). That’s 10% of all children in the UK, or up to three in every classroom experiencing long-term, persistent SLCN.
Poverty exacerbates the problem. In areas of deprivation, up to 50% of children start school with delayed language.
The impact of language difficulties on children’s lives can be devastating. Children battle to express themselves. They fight to understand what people are saying. All of which can make children feel terribly lonely.
It’s a huge problem and it demands a big response.
I CAN is at the forefront of support for children with both long-term, persistent SLCN and those with delayed language development. Your donation will help children from age two to adulthood through four major projects.
